Using GPS systems and how the are used in the trucking industry. Also discuss how GPS systems are used in other parts of the business world.

Lesson Information
Learning Expectations:

The students will learn about the way GPS helps the truck drivers stay on time.
How their cell phones work

Plan Of Action:

Intro students to GPS (Global Positioning Systems)Research how a GPS works. Where might we use GPS? Do the students cell phones have GPS systems? Why might this be important? Have the Nebraska laws changed how we view GPS?

Data Set Used:

MATH work done in Excel workbook

Materials Needed:

Internet
Work Sheets
GPS receiver
Poster materials


Preparation Period:

The students would need some time to do some research using the computer. The students should be able to discuss their findings. This could take 1-3 days depending on the set of directions given. If the students create a report or power point they could each present their project to the class or a parent panel. Many universities have students who would be willing to coming a help the class use GPS systems to find thing placed around the school. After the students have completed their projects, given their presentations, and speaker could come to visit the class. The speaker could explain the different things a GPS can do for us. (GARMIN is a very large company and is willing to do presentations.

During 1 semester Tech Ed / TDL
